The company’s origins trace back to 1984, when Tim Whitelaw began his career working aboard privately owned sailboats, sportfishing vessels, and motor yachts. His work soon expanded into commercial operations on container ships, cargo vessels, cruise ships, seagoing tugboats, jackup rigs, NOAA research vessels, National Geographic research vessel, Military Sealift Command vessels, USCG vessels, and U.S. Navy platforms—providing a broad foundation across multiple vessel classes and operating environments.
Tim holds an FCC License with Radar Endorsement and GMDSS certification. Over the decades, he advanced through a wide range of technical and leadership roles, including Field Service Engineer, Service Coordinator, Service Manager, Acting Depot Manager, and responsibilities in invoicing, debt collection, and preparing estimates for sales and service. His professional development was shaped by longterm work with respected marine electronics companies such as Electronics for Yachting, Island Marine, Radio Holland, Sperry Marine, Northrop Grumman, and now Anschütz.
Gyropilot Steering Systems LLC has also provided technical support and field service assistance to major marine service organizations, including Alpha Tron Marine Poland, Mackay Marine, Radio Holland, The GBS Group, Wärtsilä Marine, and Scandinavian Micro Systems, further expanding the company’s reach and industry partnerships.
This extensive background includes commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex bridge systems for commercial, government, and shipyard clients worldwide. In addition to field service, Gyropilot Steering Systems LLC provides online and phone technical support for a wide range of navigation, gyro, autopilot, and steering systems.
